Chicago's South Loop Museum Park condos

A boxlike structure sits atop the 32-story 1600 Museum Park, but the folks who hang out in the homeowners’ club there aren’t likely to feel boxed in. Lake Michigan and Northerly Island are off to the east, just beyond Lake Shore Drive and Soldier Field. To the west and south lie the bold new high-rises of the South Loop, as well as such venerable landmarks as Prairie Avenue’s Glessner House. And off to the north spreads Grant Park, a sight best enjoyed from the building’s outdoor swimming pool. “It’s a helluva panoramic view,” says Brad Nugent, a Coldwell Banker agent selling condos in the building.

The building’s condos are equally open and spacious, thanks in part to their balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows. Of the building’s 268 units, 94 remained for sale at presstime. They ranged from a 914-square-foot one-bedroom condo priced at $311,500 to a 2,100-square-foot three-bedroom condo going for $750,000. The developer, Enterprise Companies, is also including what used to be called its “platinum” package of high-end finishes and appliances, which cost between $15,000 and $20,000. Each condo comes with a parking space.
