Openings
The newest place to eat/drink in Logan Square is Sink/Swim (3213 W. Armitage Ave., 773-666-5085), a seafood-focused joint from crew at neighboring Scofflaw. In the kitchen is newly minted Chicagoan Matt Danko, who earned praise working in buzzy Cleveland spot Trentina with chef Jonathon Sawyer.
Maybe to balance out the preponderance of doughnut shops in the surrounding area, Lyfe Kitchen (259 E. Erie St., Streeterville, 312-933-1035) is now proffering its calorie-conscious eats at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
And another one in the Loop makes four for GRK Greek Kitchen (400 S. Wells St., 312-461-6626), which opens today with the mini-chain’s standard menu of Mediterranean fast-casual options. In a few weeks, they’ll add a bar with small snacks on the second floor.
Morsels
In the past few months, two Chicago staffers and brunch fiends have been reviewing the hottest spots in weekend-morning dining. Now, you can find all the weekly write-ups on one page with the best (and the rest) sorted by score. Check it out here.
There’s some movement underway at the nationally acclaimed progressive Asian spot Embeya (564 W. Randolph St., West Loop, 312-612-5640). Chef Thai Dang is out, and the restaurant will remain shuttered in his absence until a successor can be named (though said successor is in the works). The expected reopening date is April 15.
And for your regular update on What The National Media Is Saying About Us Now: Food & Wine declared Jake Bickelhaupt, chef/partner at 42 Grams (4662 N. Broadway, Uptown), a Best New Chef. He joins the ranks of such former Chicago winners as Dave Beran, Stephanie Izard, and Paul Kahan. Also, for the fourth straight year, Alinea (1723 N. Halsted St., Lincoln Park, 312-867-0110) has been named the world’s best restaurant by Elite Traveler, the self-titled “private jet lifestyle magazine.”
