 Longtime Frontera Grill and Topolobampo line cook Anselmo Ramírez is striking out on his own with Ixcateco Grill (3402 W. Montrose Ave., 773-539-5887), which will shine a spotlight on his native southern Mexican cuisine.

Sad news in the restaurant world, as chef Yoshi Katsumura of Lake View institution Yoshi’s Cafe (3257 N. Halsted St.,) passed away over the weekend at age 65. Katsumura, who’d been battling cancer, was a pioneering figure in French-Asian fusion, and his restaurant remains well-reviewed into its third decade. 

Bon Appétit released its shortlist of nominees for its annual Hot 10 list, their picks for the ten best new spots in the country, and two Chicago restaurants made the list of nominees: Parachute (3500 N. Elston Ave., Avondale, 773-654-1460) and Dove’s Luncheonette (1545 N. Damen Ave., Wicker Park, 773-645-4060). The final selections will be announced August 18.

Forget that the Boka/B. Hospitality joint steak house project was ever called Armour & Swift (1000 W. Fulton Market, West Loop). As Crain’s reported earlier in the week, the Armour-Eckrich company, which provided the inspiration for the first half of the spot’s name, has decided they’re not on board with their name being used any more. A new identity is in the works, say the spot's reps.
