Admittedly, the name Coconutz (13 W. Division St., Gold Coast) does not conjure the image of a tropical bar with upscale aspirations. But that is, in fact, what is happening in this bar amongst the boozy Division Street big shots, with tons of scratch-made drink ingredients and relatively demure decor.
Once you get past the theme-bar name and exterior signage, you enter a small lounge space with plenty of comfy seating. On the night we visited, there was a guitarist playing the sort of soft-rock stuff you might hear wafting through the speakers at a resort (Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews Band) to a collection of youngish couples taking refuge in Apricot Bonfire cocktails garnished with burnt rosemary.
Here's what all we saw when we stopped in.
