The space that held the upscale Chinese spot Red Violet now spins Vinyl (121 W. Hubbard St., 312-222-0222), an “American tapas” restaurant done up to look like a record store.
The owner, Nick Tsoukalas, brought over Vincent Munday, his former sous chef at the Greektown standby Athena. Munday’s menu at Vinyl sports small-plate standards such as sliders, flatbreads, skewers, and tacos averaging about $12. Desserts include apple fritters and Athena’s baklava cheesecake.
Vinyl launched this past Wednesday on its 100-seat first floor, with the downstairs lounge to follow this weekend and lunch service next week, when they—ahem—find their groove.
