Openings
Open now: Here is a list of facts about TMIP (8734 W. 400 N, Michigan City, 219-814-4930), Brandon Baltzley’s new restaurant: It’s in Indiana. It’s a ten-seat Native American inspired restaurant on a farm. Just about everything on the multicourse tasting menu comes from said farm. And everyone who works at the restaurant lives there, too. In short, it’s a totally unique addition to the region’s dining scene.
Open now: The new iteration of Gaslight (2450 N. Clark St., Lake View. 773-929-7759) is like a beach party minus the sand in your toes, with fish tacos and cans of beer in koozies.
Open now: The Tamale Spaceship food truck has a brick-and-mortar hub called Tamale Station (1341 N. Damen, Wicker Park, 312-909-7009) for their Mexican-wrestling-inspired street eats.

The Argyle Night Market starts up again tomorrow, and the farmers’ market/street fest hybrid will run every Thursday evening from now until September 4 starting at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Argyle Street and Sheridan Road. This makes it possible for you to grab a banh mi from Ba Le and treats from La Farine to enjoy as you peruse farm-fresh veggies al fresco.
In advance of this year’s Tales of the Cocktail, a huge bar industry event that starts up in New Orleans next week (and where three Chicago bars—Sable, Three Dots and a Dash, and the Aviary—are up for awards), Scofflaw (3201 W. Armitage Ave., Logan Square, 773-252-9700) is doing a Bourbon Street themed edition of their Fan Fiction series, where the cocktail menu will spotlight classic New Orleansian drinks from Sazeracs to Vieux Carrés all day long.
If you’ve ridden the Blue Line between the California and Logan Square stations, you’ve probably seen the patio at East Room (2828 W. Medill Ave., Logan Square, 773-276-9603)—it’s the one with the giant mural and the Airstream trailer that you can view from the tracks. The patio is now officially open, and it’s got a rotating menu of specials available only outdoors.
Now that Spencer’s Jolly Posh (3755 N. Southport Ave., Lake View, 872-802-3840) has settled in at a new location, the restaurant is adding dinner to its slate, which means fish and chips and Pimm’s into the evening.
