Openings

Open now: Streeterville’s restaurant scene is burning up with the addition of Rural Society (Loews Hotel, 455 N. Park Dr., 312-840-6605), the second spot in the city from chef Jose Garces (Mercat a la Planxa). There’s a ton of grilled meat and Argentine eats on the menu here, and since it’s a hotel spot, it’s got dining options at all hours.

Open now: Roll on up to the Spoke & Bird (205 E. 18th St., South Loop), a place that’s just as much about cycling culture as it is about local beer.

Morsels

Since its opening, Emporium Logan Square (2363 N. Milwaukee Ave., 773-360-8774) has housed a (stationary) food truck for quick fuel-ups between games of air hockey, but the kitchen on wheels never really took off. Now, they’re leveling things up a bit—as of this week, actual food-truck operators will be doing one-week residencies in the arcade bar starting at 5 p.m. First on the line-up is the Salsa Truck.

A USA Today writer made a bold claim yesterday—he declared the breaded steak sandwich at Ricobene’s (252 W. 26th St., 312-225-5555) to be the best sandwich in the whole entire world. He even went so far as to claim that Chicagoans don’t recognize, or appreciate, its singular status. Trust us, we do—but we only thought it was twelfth-best in the city when we ranked Chicago’s best sandwiches in 2012. Different strokes.
