Stringing another four-letter market onto her résumé, Heather Sperling launches her first Open Market on the third floor of Block 37 on December 6 and 7. No relation to George Soros, Open Market follows up on Sperling’s Dose (still operating, without Sperling and two of its three other founders) and Fête (on hiatus), but showcasing only food, instead of also fashion and design.

December 6’s half of Open Market, open from 5 to 9 p.m., presents more than 30 stalls hosted by restaurants Sperling invites, serving street-food-style tastes, which sounds like what foodies have always wished Taste of Chicago would be like. In an e-mail, Sperling mentions Mott Street, The Bristol, Yusho, Travelle, La Sirena Clandestina, Parson’s Chicken & Fish, Smalls, Pecking Order, Blackbird, Big Jones, Floriole Cafe & Bakery, and Acadia.

On December 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., artisanal producers will join with restaurants, making a more markety sort of market. Sperling name-drops Rustic Tart, Rare Bird Preserves, Peerless Bread and Jam, Rare Tea Cellar, and Blis among the artisans.

Sperling developed the concept for Tasting Table, with plans for Open Market to be a national production. She's about to move to New York, and Open Market will then hit San Francisco, and hopefully Chicago again late next year.
