In its first few weeks of existence, Old Irving Brewing (4419 W. Montrose Ave., Irving Park) has made a pretty strong case for itself in the neighborhood. It works as a bar, of course, with a beer-hall vibe and plenty of seating. But there are high-chairs for football-watching families during the day, an indoor cornhole court for crews of competitive drinkers, and plenty of solid food options for a quick meal.
This space was once planned for Homaro Cantu's Crooked Fork brewery, but after his death, the project was taken over by partner Jeff Linnemeyer, head brewer Trevor Rose-Hamblin, and chef Matthias Merges. What they've created seems like a perfect fit.
Here's what we saw when we stopped in.
