List Price: $850,000
Sale Price: $825,000
The Property: Kevin Roy, the weekend morning anchor at ABC-7 Chicago (WLS-TV), has sold his home in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Roy bought the place in May 2007 after living in a post-and-beam ranch house in Riverwoods that was designed by Burton Frank.
The Andersonville home—one of a pair of twin contemporary residences that were built in 2003 on a street that is otherwise lined with older frame and brick homes—faces south with three levels of wall-to-wall windows (that includes the basement level, which fronts on a patio and is not visible in the photo). The roof strikes a jaunty angle in the front and curves upward twice toward the rear of the home, creating barrel ceilings back there.
Inside, there are nine rooms, four bedrooms, and two-plus baths. Shannon Rossio, who handled the sale, says that there are two patios—the one in the back has a hot tub—and three balconies, including a large one off the fourth bedroom. The house has a wine room, a hard-wired sound system, and, according to Rossi, “beautiful light.” Photos that accompanied the listing show a mostly white interior with lightly stained wood steps and steel pipe handrails.
Roy, a five-time Emmy winner who writes an architecture blog for the ABC-7 website, did not respond to a request for comment. The sale closed December 7th, and the buyers are not yet identified in public records.
Price Points: Roy paid $950,000 for the home in 2007, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. He listed the place with Rossio in April 2009, asking $999,000. The $825,000 sale price is 13 percent less than the 2007 purchase price (that doesn’t include agents’ fees, taxes, and other seller’s costs, as well as any money that might have been spent on upgrades). “Anyone who bought between 2002 and 2007 is probably going to be looking at a loss,” Rossio says.
