List Price: $5.995 million
The Property: Situated on a lakefront cul-de-sac in Glencoe, this newly built mansion with an elaborate façade has an entry hall containing a free-standing marble staircase lined with florid wrought iron and lit from above by an Italian glass chandelier and a row of arched windows.

Beyond that opulent opening, though, the place is actually rather homey. It’s a high-end home, to be sure, complete with lots of rich millwork, an antique carved fireplace mantel, a basement movie room, and formal grounds. But it’s also designed for a family. The kitchen, the obvious heart of the home, includes spaces for cooking, dining, and relaxing, and the large family room next door looks out on gardens and a wooded ravine through three walls of windows.

The builders, Anthony and Adel Tarakdjian of Tara Designer Homes, completed the residence in August. They filled the house with exquisite finishes, including dark paneling in the library, a wall of two-tone glass in the workout room, and kitchen cabinetry from Lori Chazan Custom Designs.

As you will see in the video, the house, though it doesn’t have a lakefront setting, does stand across the street from Lake Michigan. A glass-railed rooftop deck—one of two decks that open off a small third-floor party room—captures sweeping views over rooftops and trees to the lake. Another large deck, at the second-floor level, lies behind the modest master bedroom, which could be enlarged by removing the wall between it and a neighboring bedroom. A second master suite occupies the first floor, off the kitchen.

Price Points: This is the fifth-highest-priced home in Glencoe right now; the most expensive house on the market is listed at $8.9 million, and there are three other houses in town priced between $5 million and $6 million—including this residence that I wrote about in August.
