Jennifer Hudson, the Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer and actress who got her start on American Idol, has a contract pending on a 12,000-square-foot home in Burr Ridge that was for sale at $2.795 million.
The house went under contract last week and was inspected Monday. Closing is scheduled for January, according to the sellers’ agent; the final sale price will not be recorded until then. But even if she buys at precisely the asking price, the 30-year-old Hudson will get the house for 33 percent off the sellers’ original asking price of $4.2 million.
The six-bedroom, seven-bath home had been on and off the market since 2006. “It’s an over-$3 million house,” says Diana Ivas of Re/Max Elite, who took over the listing in September. The final sale price, she says, “was a fair price for both parties.”
In mid-November, Bank of America filed a lis pendens, initiating foreclosure proceedings on mortgages totaling $2.4 million against the house, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. The sellers had the home custom built after buying the lot from a developer in 2004 for $435,000. Neither Ivas nor Phyllis Chudlik (Hudson’s real-estate agent) would comment on the buyer or sellers.
Hudson, a Chicago native, has two movies in the works, The Three Stooges and Winnie, a biography of Winnie Mandela. She was also on the cover of our 50 Most Beautiful Chicagoans issue in March.
