Get ready, Oprah-philes. This weekend the Chicago-based Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is hosting a massive auction of more than 500 cool, crazy, and in-between items owned by the billionaire media queen Oprah Winfrey.
Most of the collection of decorative art comes from Winfrey’s Water Tower apartment, including furniture, paintings, prints, porcelain, crystal, silver, clothing, and accessories, which include a substantial amount of Chanel, Valentino, Christian Louboutin and Oscar de la Renta for the label-lovers. Proceeds from the auction will benefit The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation, which supports the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
The Property from the Oprah Winfrey Collections auction will begin Saturday at 10 a.m., with previews going on now. Leslie Hindman’s Auctioneers offers four bidding options—online, telephone, absentee, and in-person—though all participants must register for the sale.
With about 571 Oprah treasures up for grabs, why be ordinary in your bidding selection? True Oprah fans will recognize the deep fulfillment of soaking their tea in the same strainer that the daytime TV diva might have used every morning before heading to Harpo Studios or writing with the same pen that she used to sign off on her many philanthropic checks.
Here are just some of the more bizarre things we found while perusing the options.
