Because everyone deserves chocolate covered gummy bears on their birthday, I stopped into Candyality in Lake View the other day to pick up some treats for my husband. Before hurrying back to the car, I felt the sirens call to stop into Leahey & Ladue Consignment (3753 N. Southport Ave; 773-929-4865), just a few doors down. Frigid as it is outside, there was indie music blaring from the shop’s outdoor speakers and it lured me right in.

The store is nicely organized for a vintage boutique, with specific racks dedicated to designer denim, jackets, blouses and dresses. Handbags and shoes in one corner, jewelry laid out in another.  I started sifting through the gently used clothing and found lots of contemporary women’s brands (Tory Burch, 7 For All Mankind, BCBG) mixed with some high-end pieces (Hermès, Gucci). I’d barely made it to the coat section when the sales clerk informed me that the store is in the midst of its Annual Half Off Sale.

Everything in the shop is 50 percent off this week, and could be extended into next week (as an independent boutique, the store can extend its sales if it wants to). So get there soon—and while you’re at it, treat yourself to some chocolate covered gummy bears next door. Trust me.
