Earlier this month, Katie Holmes announced she is ending the fashion label she created with her longtime stylist, Jeanne Yang. Before pulling the plug on Holmes & Yang, the design duo produced one last Spring 2014 collection – and there's only one place where you'll find it. Chalk Boutique (2611 Prairie Ave.; 847-424-0011) in Evanston, the exclusive Chicago area retailer, is holding a Holmes & Yang trunk show on Thursday, March 20 from noon to 4:30 p.m.
While Holmes will not be present, Yang will be making a personal appearance to present the label’s final spring collection. For those unfamiliar with the line, Holmes & Yang has a quiet perfection to it. Not loud or flashy, the focus is on fundamental wardrobe staples – dresses, jackets, pants and jumpsuits – that endure season after season.
Chalk Boutique's owners, Carrie Kane and Sharon Watrous, picked out a few of their favorite spring pieces: they love the label’s classic suede Dancer Jacket ($2,400), the cut-out detail on the back of a knit pearl striped crewneck ($475), and a sleeveless sundress made out of Italian silk tweed ($1,295). All of these, and more, will be available at the trunk show on Thursday. It will likely be one of final opportunities to purchase a Holmes & Yang piece, so fans of the label will want to make a special trip.
