April 24, 2010 – More than 760 guests gathered at Brookfield Zoo for the 29th annual Whirl fund-raising gala hosted by the Women’s Board of the Chicago Zoological Society. The $600-per-person black-tie event raised nearly $1.3 million, which will benefit the animals at the zoo, as well as the Society’s conservation and education programs. This year’s Whirl, themed A Whirl in the Wilderness, celebrated the zoo’s new exhibit—Great Bear Wilderness—and was chaired by Vicki DeMar of Winnetka. Read more

May 13 - May 30, 2010 – Greenspire Properties and Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana came together to present the 2010 Home of Distinction. This luxury, LEED-registered, green home showcased the latest building products and design trends with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.

The 5,200-square-foot Home of Distinction was constructed by Greenspire Properties and designed by Mandy Brown Architects PC.

Several events were held at the home, including a meet and greet with Chicago Bear’s tight end, Greg Olsen, a Ronald McDonald brunch, and several green seminars.

May 20, 2010 – PAWS Chicago’s 8th Annual Beach Party’s presenting sponsor, Associated Publications, hosted a fabulous launch party at the Ritz Carlton on Thursday, May 20th. Nearly 150 guests enjoyed beachy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and had the opportunity to meet two PAWS Chicago pups available for adoption – Porky and Jack. Other major event sponsors are North Community Bank and Mercedes-Benz of Chicago.

May 7, 2010 – On May 7th, home lovers came out for the annual Hinsdale Cooks! Kitchen Walk, which featured five fabulous, private kitchens from the community. Local chefs including Paul Virant of Vie, Didier Durand of Cyrano’s Bistrot, Branko Palikuca of Topaz, and Adam Seger, founder and mixologist of Hum Spirits, provided food, drink, and entertainment at the event. Proceeds benefitted the Hinsdale Historical Society. For more than thirty years, the Hinsdale Historical Society has been devoted to collecting, preserving, and promoting the history of Hinsdale. May 1, 2010 – The Heartland Alliance held a Preview Party at the home of Jill and Dick Gammonley to announce the features for the 2010 Celebration of Home & Garden tour to be held on June 12th in Harbor Country, Michigan. April 25, 2010 – The Ravinia Associates raised a record of over $220,000 at its annual fundraiser “Festa” on Saturday, April 25. This black-tie event benefits the not-for-profit Ravinia Festival and its REACH*TEACH*PLAY education programs, which provide students throughout the Chicago region with free music education. This year the event also honored Ravinia Trustee and Ravinia Women’s Board member Lucy Minor, who has helped expand the scope and depth of the festival’s education programs. Held at the Ravenswood Billboard Factory, the benefit featured the theme “Shaken Not Stirred.” Festa 2010 was co-chaired by John Martin and Steve Rappin. April 24, 2010 – The 25th annual Parenthesis Kitchen Walk featured ten newly remodeled kitchens in Oak Park and River Forest. A committee of professional designers and architects selected each kitchen from dozens of nominees based on innovation, attractiveness, and purposeful design. All proceeds from the walk benefitted the Parenthesis Family Center, a non-profit that seeks to build strong families through parenting education, counseling, respite, and case management services. April 15, 2010--The Merchandise Mart unveiled the 6th annual DreamHome at an exclusive preview gala Thursday, April 15th, which benefited the UCCRF Women's Board, which raises funds to support basic cancer biology research at the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. Gala attendees were the first to see this year’s DreamHome. Nine designers contributed to the “Cool Elegance” home that blended luxury furnishings from The Design Center showrooms with modern, clean lines. Read more
April 13, 2010--For the fourth consecutive year, Chicago magazine honored five local eco-innovators in its annual Green Awards editorial feature. To salute these individuals, Chicago magazine partnered with Shedd Aquarium to hold a reception in Shedd’s newly renovated Oceanarium.
